The Milo / Petra Organisation Schools Football Competition continues to break new ground and this is all due to the resolve and good nature of Co-Directors Troy Mendonca and Marlan Cole, who’ve been in the forefront of helping to keep students in school, while at the same time forging partnerships with various stakeholders to help minimise
or even eliminate some of the scourges that plague the society.
The Petra Organisation this year decided to work together with the Ministry of Health and the Centre for Disease Control to assist in disseminating information on Gender-based Violence and this partnership saw them host a two-day workshop for the twenty-four participating teams where teachers were educated on how to deal with and detect manifestations of the scourge as well as being apprised of some of the misconceptions of the behaviour.
It was deemed an overwhelming success by the participants and the hosts. The organisation then got the Government of Guyana to award three scholarships to the three lucky players to attend the University of Guyana coming out of the tournament and they will have the opportunity to study in any area other than Medicine and Law providing they obtain a minimum of five subjects at the CXC level.
Speaking with the media at a Lunch briefing at the Bransville Apartments, Mendonca disclosed that Chase Academy has also offered two scholarships to attend the institution and the conditions and other related information will be forthcoming shortly.
The final of this year’s competition is set for Saturday at the Ministry of Education ground on Carifesta Avenue, commencing at 16:00hrs.
