Berbice were in a strong position for an outright victory against Essequibo before play was called off due to rain on the second and final day of the first round of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/Igloo Ice Cream U-15 2-day inter county tournament yesterday.
Trailing by 70 runs, Essequibo were in trouble at 20-5 off 11 overs when the rain came at the Everest Cricket Club in the opening session. Opener Shane Wong (00) was the first to go, the right hander was run out when he took off for a single after cutting a delivery to point and his partner Arnold Adams failed to respond.
Darshanand Indar struck two fours before he was bowled by medium pacer Junior Williams at 14-2. It soon became 15-3 when Orlando Jailall (01) flashed at a wide delivery and was taken at second slip off left arm pacer Stephen Kamaledeen. Kamaledeen then trapped Shamar Dusraj (00) LBW at 19-4, while Williams had Joshua Jones (00) caught and bowled before the showers came. Adams was left not out on four and Vishal Singh yet to score.
Kamaledeen ended with 2-9 off six overs and Williams 2-4 from five. Steven Deonarine, who top scored for Berbice in the first innings with 44, was given the man of the match award. Berbice gained six points and Essequibo three.
Scores: Essequibo 124 all out in 38 overs and 20-5, Berbice 194-7 in 38 overs.
