Sister clubs Alpha MMA and Rising Sun Judo and Jiu- Jitsu held their first in-club competition for the year on March 30 and revitalized old rivalries within the two clubs. Reigning national Judo champion Randy Phillips, former national champion Raul Lall, Tidiane Ba among others, all seemed sure to please the small crowd and overcome each other, but as
the news broke that the formats for both men and women would be contested as opens, everyone knew that it would ultimately come down to good application of techniques and experience.
However, even as certain things seemed inevitable, young heavyweight prospects Kiefer Robin and Reeaz Khan seemed hell bent on upsetting the big guns and cementing their place among the more established fighters by producing creditable performances. Randy Phillips and Raul Lall have now met each other in three finals, with the latter seemingly now attempting to square everything up.
Norissa Yong pipped her younger sister Celina to claim the women’s open.
The results were as follows: Men’s open- gold medal- Raul Lall, silver medal- Randy Phillips, 1st bronze medal-Tidiane Ba, 2nd bronze medal- Kiefer Robin.
Women’s open- gold medal- Norissa Yong, silver medal- Celina Yong.
The organisers would like to thank sponsor International Technical Supplies for helping to make the event possible.
