Vurlon Mills registered a hat-trick as Slingerz of West Demerara demolished Net Rockers of Linden 6-0 when the NAMILCO football tournament continued on Saturday night last at Uitvlugt.
Tichard Joseph opened the scoring for Slingerz, who dominated possession from the onset, when he netted in the 5th minute in the second game of a double header after he was brought down just outside the 18 yard box. The West Demerara side continued to push forward and Mills opened his account in the 18th minute after a cross by Devon Millington from the right corner deflected off the goalkeeper and Mills tapped home.
Net Rockers found it difficult to keep up with the pace and Millington extended the lead in the 27th minute when he collected a pass from Colin Nelson and slotted home to give his team a 3-0 lead at the interval.
Mills capitalized on a defensive error after the break and scored his second in the 54th minute before a solo effort by Nelson made it 5-0. Nelson collected the ball from mid field and waltzed his way past three defenders before finishing. Mills found the back of the net in 80th minute with a shot from the right side, just outside the 18 yards box to complete his hat-trick and an unforgettable night for the Lindeners.
Earlier, Georgetown based Fruta Conquerors hammered Pouderoyen of West Demerara 3-0. Forward Dwayne Lawrence gave Conquerors the lead in the second minute when an Ian Allen cross from the left corner found him in side the box and the striker wasted little time in tapping home. Pouderoyen tried desperately to equalize but Conquerors number 17, Jahal Greaves doubled the advantage in the 34th minute after receiving a pass from Lawrence inside the penalty area. Lawrence then slotted home in the 37th minute to give his side a 3-0 lead at half time. Pouderoyen showed improvement in the second half especially in defence, but failed to find the back of the net despite several attempts.
