Welder accused of attacking spouse with gun, hot iron for sex

Despite the attempts of a young woman to persuade a city Magistrate to consider exonerating her reputed husband, the accused welder who faced the court for thrashing her with a gun and burning her with a hot iron because she denied him sex, is now a remanded prisoner.
Almost two weeks after the domestic spat, Clive Forde, 33, also known as ‘Taylor’, was ordered held yesterday when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer to the charges.
Forde faces a charge of unlawfully and maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm on the woman on March 14 at their Fifth Street, Alberttown, Georgetown residence. He pleaded not guilty.
State Prosecutor, Corporal Deniro Jones, explained to Magistrate Ann McLennan that the two parties have been sharing a common law relationship for the past six years.
Jones offered objections to the accused being granted bail citing the nature of the circumstance.
“The defendant is always in the habit of assaulting her. On the day in question he approached her for sex but she refused. He became angry and took an iron and burnt her on her leg, your worship. Further, he pulled out a .32 silver revolver and lashed her to her mouth. Your worship, the accused dealt her several cuffs and kicks about her body.”
According to the Prosecutor, Forde would interfere with her if given pre-trial liberty, because they have shared the same home for the past six years.
However, after the prosecutor finished offering his objections to Forde being granted bail, the alleged abused woman stepped forward to address the court.
She attempted to plead for the man. She urged the court to let him go saying “This is my child father and I wish not to give any evidence against him your honour.”
Notwithstanding her effort, McLennan responded “Oh yes? And he put a gun to your head and burnt your leg? We’ll see about that. You need to speak to the Clerk of Court for protection orders.”
Forde was remanded to prison. He is expected to make his second court appearance before the Chief Magistrate on April 9.
