Milo/Petra Organisation Schools Football Competition…
Defending champions St. George’s showed the class and pedigree of title holders en route to an imposing 4-2 win over a game, but outclassed Bishop’s High as quarter-final action in this year’s Milo / Petra Organisation Schools Football Competition concluded yesterday, at the Georgetown Football Club ground.
Playing in the first game of a double header, St. George’s fell behind in the 13th minute when Shaquille Moseley after finding himself unmarked in the box following a cross from the right flank neatly cheasted the ball into the back of the net.
However, the champions responded with riposte seven minutes later through Robby McClaggon, who twisted and turned following a scramble for the ball in the goal area, before firing past the Bishop’s High goalkeeper into the far corner.
McClaggon was back in action in the 30th minute this time using his skill and speed to outrun three defenders courtesy of a through pass from centerfield, before rounding the keeper and firing a shot into an empty net.
The reigning champions stretched their advantage further when Jameel Wilson netted in the 39th minute shortly after the break.
Bishop’s High problems were further compounded when one of their defenders committed a foul just outside the penalty area and goalkeeper Orin Moore Jr. stepped up to take the kick and he blasted a low powerful shot that surprised the goalkeeper, leaving him transfixed on the near post with the ball landing into the far corner.
In the dying moments of the game, Bishop’s High managed to salvage some pride after winning a penalty and the ensuing spot kick was buried by Nathanael King. That goal came in the 61st minute of play and even though Bishop’s High attacked with menace, St. George’s defensive line held firm until the final whistle sounded.
In the feature contest, Christ Church outlasted a determined Queenstown by a 1-0 margin with Lonsdale George’s 5th minute strike untying the two teams. It must have been a disappointing end for the Queenstown unit as they missed at least four chances to score due to some poor finishing.
Christ Church now set up a clash with the defending champions for a place in the final; while the other semi final will see Dolphin and Lodge square off for a final berth as well. The action returns to the Ministry of Education ground tomorrow and the first game starts at 14:00hrs.
