…allegedly assaults teen over text message to male friend
Once again, National Television Network (NTN) radio announcer, Ossie Rogers has landed himself in hot water.
This time investigators are preparing to question Rogers about allegations made by a 13-year-old Industry, East Coast Demerara (ECD) girl that he stormed into her yard and assaulted her.
Kaieteur News learnt that the teenager and Rogers reportedly share the same male mutual friend. The radio announcer reportedly got annoyed after seeing a text message sent by the teen in his associate’s phone.
At the centre of the controversy is a 15-year-old boy from Corentyne, Berbice.
A police source informed this publication that they have already taken a statement from the teen and her mother, and are in the process of summoning the “main man”.
Yesterday, the teen’s mother explained that she was in the upper flat of her Industry’s home when she noticed a car parked in front of her yard.
“I was listening to music upstairs so I couldn’t really hear anything. When I peeped out I see a commotion and when I went downstairs, I see Ossie walking out. When I asked my daughter what happened, she say Ossie slapped her,” the mother stressed.
The woman explained that her daughter informed her that the man stormed into the yard and demanded to see her phone. “She said that he grabbed her phone and searched it and when he didn’t see anything, he slapped her,” the mother further stressed.
The mother claimed that as Rogers stormed out of the yard, he hurled abusive words at her and her daughter while threatening to attack the duo with a piece of wood.
According to the mother, it all started several months ago when a 15-year-old boy visited her home to meet with her brother.
“My brother and this boy are friends, but I didn’t know that this boy de like my daughter. This boy say that Ossie is his stepfather, but is now I hear the two of them live home,” the devastated mother stressed.
The woman added that after she found out that the 15-year-old had liked her daughter, she asked him not to return to her home.
“He never come back, but he use to message my daughter and like Ossie see the message or something and got upset. When he was leaving, he cursing and saying that police can’t do him anything,” the woman added.
Last November, Sparendaam Magistrate Alex Moore found Rogers guilty of resisting arrest and failing to comply with a lawful direction by a police officer. He was fined and ordered to complete 53 hours community service. An arrest warrant was later issued for him by Magistrate Moore when he did not show up.
Rogers later moved to the High Court to appeal Magistrate Moore’s decision.
