Commissioner of Police Leroy Brumell at a ceremony held for him by the Commander and ranks of “G” Division, Essequibo, said that he is proud to be leaving the force at a time when the force has been modernized.
Brumell said that he has definitely enjoyed his stint as Commissioner. He said that he acted “professionally.”
Brumell told the officers and ranks at the Richard Fikhal College, at Suddie, Tuesday afternoon that he is handing over a relatively stable force in the hands of mature and capable ranks, who he said can handle anything that arises.
“I will be on the outside looking inside.”
Brumell said that he became Top Cop amidst numerous challenges because he had adopted the “style” of his senior commanders and incorporated that style when he was a mature cop.
The commissioner, who would be retiring on March 30, next, said that the force continues to effect training of its ranks. The force is here to lend support to both the government and citizens of Guyana.
Brumell, who served as ‘G’ Division commander in 2002, admonished the ranks to be security conscious. He encouraged them to try to adjust to change.
He also told the officers that it is good to be firm but not a tyrant.
Make use of the resources that are available and show humility; don’t bear malice and do not be partial, the outgoing police commissioner said..
Brumell, who wanted to become a teacher, started out in the Guyana Police Force in the Finance Department. He worked in that section of the force for six years before he was transferred to begin working in the various branches of the force.
A number of police ranks operating in “G” Division received on-the-spot promotions. These included Corporal Nazir Rasul, Corporal Khemraj Ramsaywack, Corporal Parmanand Persaud, Lance Corporal Adrian Massiah, Lance Corporal Roopnarine Ramnarine, Lance Corporal Charles and Sergeant Matthew Craig.
Brumell in turn was offered tokens of appreciation from “G” Division, Anna Regina Station Management committee and CPG ,of Supenaam And Aurora. (Yannason Duncan)
