A 31-year-old auto mechanic accused of brandishing a cutlass in front of another man who in fear reportedly jumped in a nearby trench was yesterday granted $10,000 bail when he appeared before a city Magistrate.
Vijay Naidu, of Lot 127 Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara, was charged with threatening behavior. He appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
According to the police, on March 24, last, at Covent Garden, Naidu threatened Randy Bradshaw. He, however, pleaded not guilty and sought bail through his lawyer, Melvin Duke.
Duke said that the two men have long standing issues and that there are many reports at the Providence Police Station to support his claim.
The lawyer said that on that day, his client was not the aggressor but rather a group of persons ‘turned on him.”
He requested self bail stating that Naidu will return to court to face his charges. Duke said that the file is in the possession of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
State Prosecutor, Corporal Bharat Mangru asked the court to consider a peace bond since the men have an ongoing issue. On one occasion the defendant pulled a cutlass on the victim causing him to jump into a nearby trench.
Magistrate McGusty granted bail in the sum of $10,000 and bonded the two to keep the peace. The case will be called again on June 2.
