Two teenage boys, who allegedly brandished an ice pick and mugged a man in the heart of the city five days ago, were each granted bail in the sum of $100,000 when they appeared before a senior Magistrate yesterday.
The Georgetown Magistrates’ Court heard that Godfrey Pereira and Dwayne Wallis accosted, choked and pulled an ice pick on Deodat Singh before they made off with his belongings on March 20, last.
Singh was reportedly walking along a city street when the duo attacked him, relieved him of his bicycle and a quantity of cash, and ran away. The matter was reported and subsequent investigations led to their arrest.
They were yesterday arraigned for robbery with aggravation before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and granted $100,000 bail. They were also ordered to return to court on April 11.
Exactly one month ago, Pereira had confessed to stealing a $130,000 Samsung cellular phone and was released on probation after a report was prepared and presented to the court by a social worker.
He was on that occasion ordered in their custody and sent to the Guyana Industrial Training Centre for the next two years, instead of a three-year-jail sentence.
