7th edition of the FCFC/NAMILCO, One Love Reloaded football tournament …

Rhythm Squad defeated Santos FC 1-0, compliments of an 80th minute goal by Amos Ramsay while Pele defeated Topp XX 2-0 compliments of successes off the boots Calvin Shepherd (41) and Shemroy Arthur (61) when those teams clashed in the open encounters of the FCFC/NAMILCO, One Love Reloaded football competition at the Tucville Ground Sunday evening last.
Activities got off to a start when sixteen teams marched to the roll of drums and eventually saluted a top delegation that included Prime Minister, Samuel Hinds, Presidents of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and the Fruta Conquerors Football Club (FCFC), Christopher Matthias and Wayne Forde respectively, Director of Youth and Sports, Neil Kumar, Managing Director of the National Milling Company, Bert Sukhai, Vice President of the Georgetown Football Association, Lavern Fraser and financial executive (NAMILCO), Automaram Lakeram among others.
Mr. Hinds congratulated the organizers for their steadfast commitment and said that the tournament has been improving on a yearly basis. He said that Physical Education is every important to the development of any nation and the tournament would serve to promote this concept among the youths. He also urged the players to demonstrate fair play and discipline.
Mr. Sukhai also admitted that the tournament has grown tremendously since its inauguration 6 years ago. He said that it is this factor that has prompted his executives to invest more than five million dollars in cash and prizes towards the success of the event.
He lauded the efforts of Mr. Forde in the expansion of the tournament to other regions even as he anticipated future developmental initiatives. “I look forward to a competitive tournament,” concluded Mr. Sukhai.
Mr. Kumar said that he was heartened by the number of teams that are involved in the tournament and called on the public to support the venture. He also said that he has confidence in the GFF President and his vision for the sport.
Mr. Matthias said that the tournament is a demonstration of love and careful planning, two variables that are welcome in the football fraternity. He said that he has recently attended the FIFA congress in Zurich and the message is that football must be more structured and disciplined. He called on all of the participants to demonstrate this vision even as they aspire to win.
Meanwhile, shortly after the opening ceremony concluded Prime Minister Hinds performed the ritualistic kick that signaled the start of the tournament where the four aforementioned teams were engaged in stiff rivalry.
In total, sixteen teams will throw down the gauntlet for a top prize of $1.2M, while the second place finisher receives $600,000. The 3rd and 4th place finishers will take home $400,000 and $200,000 respectively. The four top teams will also receive trophies while there will be other prizes for the Most Valuable Player, Best Goalkeeper and most prolific goal scorer among others.
The other participating teams are Buxton United, Alpha United, Alpha United, Fruta Conquerors, Monedderlust, Netrockers, BV Triumph, Guyana Defense Force, Slingerz, Camptown and New Amsterdam United.
