Tweets- “Worst experience with us is Guyana…because of the organizers- Christine and Popo entertainment. They haven’t paid people their due, including us.”
Rithvik Dhanjani, better known for his role as ‘Arjun’ in the hit television series, ‘Pavitra Rishta’, is calling on authorities to arrest the promoters of ‘Bollywood Live with the stars,’ which got underway on Friday last at the Tuschen Community Centre Ground.
He tweeted, “Worst experience with us is Guyana…because of the organizers- Christine and Popo entertainment. They haven’t paid people their due, including us.”
Dhanjani further posted, “Never wanted my first experience in Guyana to be like this. Christine and Popo entertainment deserves to be behind bars. Spread the word guys.”
The Indian heartthrob, along with his co-star, Asha Negi (Purvi), Yahan Mein Ghar Ghar Kheli’s lead actress, Suhasi Dhami (Abha) and Choti Bahu’s Rubina Dilaik (Radhika), have been in Guyana since last week Tuesday.
They were scheduled to perform at three major events over the weekend.
Despite being owed, the artistes still appeared and delivered massively to the thousands who showed up at the Tuschen Community Centre Ground and the Guyana National Stadium on Friday and Saturday nights respectively.
They however cancelled the Berbice leg of their tour, which was scheduled for Sunday, and left the country early Monday morning, without receiving their full dues.
On this note, he tweeted, “I feel so sorry for people in Berbice because they must have paid for the tickets and these promoters will not pay anybody back. This is ridiculous.”
In addition to the international artistes, several local entertainers along with Anil Bheem and the BMRZ Band out of Trinidad and Tobago have also not been paid.
Errant promoter, Christine Persaud claims that although many tickets were sold, she does not know where the monies went.
“I think I’ve been robbed or something,” the woman maintained.
She told Kaieteur News that her business partner, “Popo” (only name given) will remain in Guyana while she goes to the United States to organize more money for the artistes to be paid.
However, the person who has been hired to carry out promotional works here believes that the woman will leave the country and never return.
“I think she gon go away and hide. When she leave here, I know she wouldn’t come back. De woman gon disappear with all we money, and nobody ain’t gon know where she gone,” Harrychand Sukhan told this newspaper yesterday.
The man explained that in addition to the monies owed to him for his service, the promoters also have to repay him some borrowed cash.
“They owe me millions, including the money I spent from my pocket, and I frighten that this woman gon leave de country and disappear without paying us,” Sukhan stressed.
The man noted too that the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has not yet been paid for the tickets sold.
“They paid the entertainment taxes, but I don’t know wah gon happen, because they still owe GRA and if this woman goes way tomorrow (today), she ain’t coming back, I got a strong feeling of that,” the angry man said.
Meanwhile, when contacted yesterday, Head of the GRA, Khurshid Sattaur promised to investigate the situation.
“I will look into it, and if anything, we can stop her (the organizer) from leaving the country,” Sattaur said.
Christine Persaud was also fingered in the operations of a fraudulent Nursing Home in New York City.
And, Kaieteur News understands that Suhasi Dhami (Abha) has still not been paid in full for her last performance here in 2013. Yet, the artiste disregarded her first experience with the Guyanese promoter, and returned, only to be robbed again.
Following the ‘Music of the World 2’ concert, the whereabouts of promoter, Mahendra Ramkelawan remains unknown.
Such scenarios continue even as Guyana promotes entertainment tourism. Efforts to contact the Minister of Tourism, Irfaan Ali, and the Director of the Guyana Tourism Authority, Indranauth Haralsingh, were futile.
