FIA Track Engineer of the Americas Julian Abed arrived in Guyana yesterday for a one-day inspection tour which will see him meet with local officials of the sport as well as pay a courtesy call on Minister of Culture, Youth & Sport Dr. Frank Anthony.
Abed, who is of Mexican origin and brother of FIA Vice-President Jose Abed arrived in Guyana to inspect and advise local racing officials on how they could develop the South Dakota Circuit into a Level 3 facility.
His visit is a follow up to one made last year by FIA President Jean Todt where he promised to assist Guyana in its quest to upgrade the current track to accommodate higher levels of competition in compliance with FIA regulations.
According to an official close to the local governing body, the Government of Guyana is extremely excited about the idea of the country having an opportunity to upgrade the present facility and offered its support for the impending project.
Obed is also expected to pay a visit to the Circuit sometime today, before meeting with representatives of the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club and club members sometime later in the afternoon for an interactive session where they will be allowed to ask questions.
This segment of the visit will be conducted at the club’s Headquarters on Albert Street.
Meanwhile, Semco’s Engineering Consultant Raymond Latchmansingh has been retained as a Specialist for the project.
