Five families are now the recipients of new two- bedroom homes complete with sanitation facilities, thanks to a collaboration between Food For The Poor (Guyana) Inc. (FFTP) and Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited.
Work is currently underway on four more.
According to FFTP, the homes are located in Diamond\Grove, East Bank Demerara; La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara; Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice; and Lot 59 Johanna North, Black Bush Polder, Corentyne Coast.
FFTP said that its housing project consists of two-bedroom wooden structures constructed free of cost for very poor families with approximately 3,000 houses built so far in across the country.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony of one of the homes to Deonarine Shewpersaud of Black Bush Polder, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of FFTP, Kent Vincent, said that the organization was committed to helping the poor.
The official, noting that the organization is a ministry to the poor, said it depends on businesses and individuals for donations to realize projects. This year FFTP intends to build no less than 120 homes. He appealed for assistance.
Speaking on behalf of the bank, Harry Dass Ghannes, Manager, Rose Hall Branch, said that the bank has been serving areas and making donations not only to FFTP but to sports and other Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).
Shewpersaud, 58, a father of two, said that his family lived in deplorable conditions before the acquisition of his new home.
Bhopaul Jagroo, Region 6 Vice Chairman, praised FFTP for the assistance.
