Floodlight football returns to the GDF ground, Camp Ayangana this evening when the Georgetown Football Association kicks off its 2014 season.
The competition’s Division One fire would be lit at 18:00 hrs when GFC tackle Beacon.
In the feature game of the double-header card Fruta Conquerors clash with nemesis Camptown.
The latter game is expected to be a red-hot affair as Conquerors needled Camptown 1-0 when the two teams last met in the GFF Premier League late last year. Fruta Conquerors will be led by captain Delon Williams who will be supported by midfielder Daniel Thomas, defender Lennox Arthur and Dennis ‘Lion’ Edwards between the uprights.
GFA General Secretary Odinga Lumumba promised that during this year competition would be more aggressive. “We have been given a mandate to develop the game of football in Georgetown and that’s what we plan to do. This year our aim is to fulfill all our obligations,” Lumumba said.
“We will have an aggressive league and spectators and players can expect football of a high quality.” This evening’s games would be preceded by an opening ceremony which includes a March Past of teams.
Among those anticipated to appear for Sunburst Camptown are Troy Prescod, Rishawn Sandiford, Joel Bond, Devon Forde and Anthony Sancho, while Fruta Conquerors line up contains Trevon Lythcott, Odell Williams, Kishern Lovell, Daniel Favourite and Lennox Charles.
The competition continues tomorrow, at the same venue when play in Division Two commences.
In the first game, University of Guyana tackle BK Western Tigers from 13:00 hrs and that game will be followed by the encounter between Santos and Houston Stars at 15:00 hrs.
