The Lions Club of Grove/Diamond on the East Bank of Demerara on Wednesday came to the rescue of a teacher attached to the St. Gabriel’s Primary School, donating a wheelchair for her comfort.
The teacher, Miss Debra Inniss, Graduate Senior Mistress, was presented with the wheelchair in the presence of the grade two students she teaches.
The donation was part of the Lions Club’s ongoing service programme and was the fulfilling of its promise to assist the teacher.
Kaieteur News understands that Miss Inniss recently sustained an injury which made it difficult for her to move around the classroom. She would do so with the aid of a walking stick.
According to the Lions Club, the need to make Miss Inniss as comfortable as possible in moving around her classroom was of paramount importance.
With this in mind, Club President Petal Ridley approached the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre seeking the donation of the wheelchair and the courtesy was extended to her.
The Club which was charted on 11th February 2011 has completed many service activities within the Diamond /Grove area.
Among the activities done thus far are: distribution of dental kits – compliments of Colgate Palmolive, to students of the New Diamond/Grove Primary School; a hair-cutting exercise for male students of the said school; pedestrian crossings in front of three schools within the area; distribution of food hampers to senior citizens, and feeding of displaced persons.
The Grove Diamond Lions Club continues to receive corporate assistance from the business community and individuals.
