He knows what it takes to be a champion, having earned the accolade many times before, so when Group 2A and B driver Shairaz Roshandin takes to the track this weekend to participate in the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club Race Meet, those lined up against him on the grid should know that he has come fully prepared.
Roshandin, who pilots a Honda Civic Type R machine speaking with this newspaper via telephone yesterday, spoke about his readiness and how much work has gone in to make the car more competitive and reliable.
“After last November Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC), we realised that the Barbadians were much more superior than us so we knew right away that in order for us to dominate the two categories we had to make some improvements and we immediately set about doing such and from an early testing we are satisfied with the results,” Roshandin said.
He said one of the primary aims of the team is to be successful at the CMRC and to do so require constant upgrading of the car since there is always the need to generate more speed to combat the developments being made by the other drivers.
The local speedster revealed that they have done a lot of work on the braking and suspension systems and the early prognosis seems to indicate that they will be much faster and clearly more competitive come Sunday, at the South Dakota Circuit.
Asked to name a few who could potentially steal the spotlight from him, Roshandin pointed to drivers such as Chet Singh, Raj Singh, Jad Rahaman, Andre Dhanraj and John Joseph as among those who he will have to watch closely.
“At the CMRC I was doing lap times of 38.5 seconds, while the Bajans were hovering in the 38.4s so we understood right away that in order for us to eclipse their performances we had to make improvements and we’ve done so and ready to give the fans a real treat.”
He extended thanks to the following sponsors: M.S Roshandin and TOTAL Lubricants, oil of the 2013 Formula 1 champion Sebastien Vettel of Germany.
Twenty-seven races are listed for the day and spectators could expect a day of exhilarating racing among the best locally and regionally.
