East Coast overcome West Dem. by 4 wkts

Georgetown won the Demerara Cricket Board U-15 50 overs Inter Association tournament after registering a 23-run victory over East Bank in the final round yesterday.

Georgetown batted first after winning the toss and posted 116-6 after the game was reduced to 30 overs due to rain. Kurt Lovell top scored with 42 (5×4) not out while Alphius Bookie contributed 19; Paul Thomas claimed 2-10 and Anthony Antonio 2-30. East Bank responded with 93 all out in 28.4 overs. Bhojnarine Singh made 26 (2×4) as Mark Baptiste and Ashmead Nedd snared two wickets each. Lovell was given the man of the match award. Georgetown surprisingly omitted Transport SC leg spinner Joel Spooner from their starting eleven in all their matches; the thirteen year old Spooner took 6-58 against University of Guyana on his second division debut in the latter part of 2013.
At Wales, East Coast overcame West Demerara by four wickets. West Demerara were bowled out for 85 in 30.5 overs after they were inserted by the visitors who replied with 86-6 in 30 overs.
The home team were reduced to 15-2 before Ganesh Jitlall and Troy Persaud added 36 for the third wicket, but once the partnership was broken by Bhaskar Yadram who had Persaud (04) stumped, the rest of the batting failed to support Jitlall who top scored with 37 including three fours and two sixes. Extras assisted with 22; Yadram grabbed 4-17 off 10 overs and Pradesh Balkishun 3-22 from 10.
In reply East Coast found themselves precariously placed at 37-3, but David Wilson and Basdeo Ramdeo put together 21 for the fourth wicket before Daneshwar Kowlessar had Wilson smartly stumped by Chukiram Outar for eight. Ramdeo and Robin Williams then took their team within four runs shy of victory with a fifth wicket stand of 21.
Williams eventually departed for 10, but Ramdeo (13*) and Farmat Sukhai (02*) saw their team home. Kowlessar finished with 3-21. Yadram was given the man of the match award.
