Reigning Group 2B champion Afraz Allie speaking ahead of the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club March 23 Race Meet said he is relishing the opportunity to compete against the best drivers in the category.
Allie, who is currently overseas, told this newpapers that from what he is hearing it seems as though the Group will be heavily subscribed and he will have to be on top of his game to stave off the competition.
Reigning Group 2B champion Afraz Allie poses next to his Toyota Starlet at the 2013 CMRC in Jamaica.
“I am scheduled to arrive on the morning of qualifying so right now it is up to my team of mechanics and electricians to ensure that the machine is in perfect shape for me to do well,” he stated.
He revealed that the team has started work on his Toyota Starlet and they are hoping that the gearbox problem which plagued the car last November will be fully rectified come race day.
“I have to be ready to defend my title since word is that most of the guys have done significant upgrades since the last Meet so right away you see I have my work cut out,” Allie noted.
He, however, expressed optimism that they will be ready in time to repel all the anticipated challenges and continue his reign as champion.
Allie reckoned Syed Hassan and Shairaz Roshandin among the drivers who could pose a threat to his dominance, but according to him, they too will have to be on their game to dethrone him.
“The challenge is going to be great, but I welcome it because only by winning amongst strong competition could you feel truly rewarded.”
He extended thanks to the following sponsors for their support over the period and they include Banks DIH Ltd under its R1 White Ice, Mohammed’s Enterprise, Ready Mix, Prem’s Electrical, Mike’s Copy Centre, Tulshi Machine Shop, Cellphonix, Clifton Auto Spares and Sales, Imran
Electrical, Mohamed Haffiz – Mechanic and most of all his family.
