Football administration, already in chaos following sanctions meted out by the General Council to several officials of the Upper Demerara Football Association, has taken a further nosedive following the sudden resignation of the General Secretary of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), Noel Adonis sometime last week.
Kaieteur News learnt of this development and sought a comment from President of the GFF, Christopher Matthias. He said that he did not wish to speak on the matter and suggested that this reporter clarify the issue with Mr. Adonis. When contacted, Mr. Adonis hinted that his contract has reached the expiry date and he has no interest in being reinstalled.
Meanwhile, a source close to the GFF revealed that the General Secretary was asked to tender his resignation. The source also said that the holder of the position is appointed and is placed on a contract for a stipulated period. Notwithstanding, the General Secretary is a creature to the (GFF) President who can terminate the contract once reasonable grounds exist. It must also be remembered that Mr. Matthias had exercised this prerogative in a matter with former Mr. Adonis’ predecessor, George Rutherford.
Meanwhile, Kaieteur Sport was reliably informed that Matthias has recently engaged a high profiled female football affiliate in a meeting at the GFF Dadanawa Street, Section K Campbellville office. It is uncertain whether that meeting had anything to do with a replacement of the portfolio in question.
In the meantime, we were told that Mr. Adonis will retain the position until the expiration of his contract in the very near future.
