Orville Hinds of United Bike Shop pedaled to victory in the feature 35-lap school boys and invitational race, topping a star studded field when the 10th edition of the Diamond Mineral Water 11-Race National Park Cycle Meet was held yesterday.
Hinds, in winning the contest that attracted 26 starters, clocked One Hour 14 Minutes 45.38 Seconds, relegating last year’s winner Raynauth Jeffrey (1hr 15min 01ses) to third place behind Warren Mc Kay.
The fourth to sixth positions were occupied by Andre Abdool, Robin Persaud and Stephen Fernandes.
The race pedaled off in a steady shower but that dissipated as proceedings progressed. Hinds eventually won with more than a minute on the second placed rider, his win was so dominating that he won six of the eight sprint prizes on offer, the other two shared between Jeffrey and Godfrey Pollydore.
Like Hinds, Michael Anthony of Team Coco’s was dominant in the juvenile 10-lap contest which he won by a long way, clocking 24 Minutes 01 Second. Andre Green took the second place with Alanzo Ambrose third.
Anthony and Ambrose shared the sprint prizes with one each.
The face of the veteran’s Under-50 race continued to be the indefatigable Junior Niles (Team Coco’s) who completed the 5-lap contest in 13 Minutes ahead of Wilbert Benjamin in a fierce finish, Ralph Williams placed third.
Linden Blackman topped the field in the Over-50 race over a similar distance, Virgil Jones was second.
Ozia Macullay was unstoppable in the mountain bike 5-lap event, stopping the clock at 13 Minutes 01 second to win from Clyde Jacobs and Wayne Nurse in that order.
