Magistrate Judy Latchman yesterday handed down a 24 -month jail sentence to 32 year- old Patrick Smith of Lot 1 Dennis Street Turkeyen Sophia, after he was found guilty of break and enter and larceny by the court.
The man, who was initially placed on $100, 000 bail last year after he pleaded not guilty to breaking and entering the dwelling house of Randolph Richardson and stealing a quantity of household appliances valued at more than half a million dollars, asked the court for leniency.
According to details relating to the matter, between May 30 and June 3, 2013 at South Ruimveldt, Smith broke and entered the home of the complainant and stole a blender, toaster; surround sound system, 19 inch television set and a generator.
During yesterday’s hearing, Smith told the court that he has no antecedents with the law. However, subsequent queries made by prosecutor Joel Ricknauth proved otherwise.
The court learnt that the defendant was convicted of stealing a CG motorcycle for which he was imprisoned for twenty two months.
