Turfites and other horserace enthusiasts are guaranteed a day of thrills and excitement tomorrow when organizers of the Port Mourant Turf Club (PMTC) stages a grand one day horserace meet at the club’s track starting at 13:00hrs.
Seven races are carded for the day and the feature event will see thoroughbreds in the ‘D & Lower’ category battling for a top purse of one million dollars over a distance of one mile.
The main supporting race will pit the skills of the three-year-old Guyana and West Indies bred animals competing over a distance of 1300m for a top prize of $600,000.
There will also be a race among the four-year-old, Guyana and West Indies bred horses over a mile with the winner carting off $500,000. The winner of the F & Lower event over 1500m will also receive a similar purse.
Several other races will comprise the day’s activities including G3 W.I Maiden and Guy Open, both over 1200m for a first prize of $400,000, the ‘I and Lower’ event over 1000m for a winning purse of $250,000 and the J and Lower over 1200m for a top prize of $200,000.
Seventy five horses are already registered for the day’s events and all systems are in place for a highly competitive day of racing among the leading horses, jockeys and stables. The organizers have assured that the track is in excellent condition for the event.
