Twenty/20 cricket is the most popular form of the game and the success of the Limacol Caribbean Premier League has only served to build the passion even more. The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) will be hosting two T20 tournaments in 2014.
On Thursday last at the National Communications Network studio, Ansa McAl through their brand, Carib Beer, has committed to sponsoring one of those competitions. The tournament will be played among Bush Lot, West
Berbice, Blairmont, D’ Edward, Edinburgh, Bermine, Young Warriors, Albion, Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, Port Mourant, Skeldon and Upper Corentyne.
It will be divided into two zones and teams will play each other once on a round robin basis before the knockout stage. The winning team will receive $80,000 and the Carib Beer trophy, the runner up a trophy and $40,000 and man of the match in the final $10,000.
Public Relations Officer of the BCB, Hilbert Foster thanked the entity for their support and assured that the tournament will fulfill its objectives, adding that the company will also support the BCB golden jubilee tribute to heroes programme.
Public Relations Officer of the Ansa McAl, Dharshanie Yusuf said they are pleased to renew ties with the board and stated that the county has a special place for the game. He added that through these tournaments players showcase their talent and also wished the teams well.
