RHTYSC Busta champion of champions…
The cast for the final of the RHTYSC Busta champion of champions cricket competition was decided on Saturday and
the two favourite teams were left on the stage once again to battle it out for championship honors. Playing at the Area ‘H’ Ground in Rose Hall Town, defending champions RHT Gizmos and Gadgets crushed Young Warriors by a massive margin, while Albion cruised past a lackluster Port Mourant by seven wickets.
RHTGG won the toss and elected to bat first, and got an opening partnership of 24 in six overs between former national player Delbert Hicks and former national under 19 Dominic Rikhi before Rikhi inside edged medium pacer Royden Phil into his stumps for 10. Phil then struck with his next delivery to trap Jason Sinclair LBW for nought to leave RHTGG 24 for 2.
Hicks and West Indies ODI player, Royston Crandon, then added 16 runs for the 3rd wicket before former national junior player Shaquille Williams had the big hitting Hicks caught for 20. National Player Rajiv Ivan and Crandon repaired the damage by adding 85 for the 4th wicket before Crandon 35 and Ivan 40 were dismissed by off spinner Balram Samaroo to leave RHTGG 127 for 5 in the 24th over.
Former National Under 19 player, Clinton Pestano then blasted 77 with 10 fours and two massive sixes and received support from national under 19 captain Shawn Pereira 55 not out (3×4) as RHTGG reached a massive 285 for 9 off their allotted 47 overs. Bowling for Young Warriors, Samaroo had bowling figures of 10-0-45-2 and Williams 10-1-49-3.
In response, the visitors found themselves tottering at 9 for 4 in the fourth over as RHTGG opened with spin at both ends. West Indies Under 19 opener Shimron Hetmyer was bowled by off spinner Troy Mathieson for 01, while Vishal Mohabir 01, Kassim Khan 05 and Ishwar Singh 00 were all dismissed cheaply.
Kevin Ramdeen and Shaquille Williams then laboured to take the score to 82 in the 20th over before Ramdeen was trapped LBW by Ivan for 29 with a boundary and one six. The rest of the batting quickly folded as only Williams with an impressive fifty offered any resistance. Sasenarine Sukhdeo who surprisingly batted at No.10 was left unbeaten on 13 as Mathieson took 4 for 21 from 8 overs, Ivan 2 for 27 from 6 overs and Pereira 3 for 9 from 3.4 overs to bowl out the visitors for 135 in 27.4 overs.
At the Port Mourant Ground, the home club, on a reorganizing drive, was brought down to earth by a severely depleted Albion ,missing five national cricketers.
Batting first, Port Mourant were well placed at 67 for 1 in the 20th over after opener Andre Lyght JNR was earlier dismissed for 06 by medium pacer Satesh Dwarka for 6. Joshua Ramsammy and Devendra Thakurdeen added 56 for the 2nd wicket before Thakurdeen in a careless piece of cricket was bowled by Jonathan Foo for 27. The dismissal of the talented Ramsammy for 25 engineered a massive collapse as PMCC folded for 122 all out in 42.3 overs as only Chandrasekhar Arjune with 12, reached double figures for the remaining batsmen.
West Indies Under 19 left arm spinner Gudakesh Motie claimed 3 wickets for 17 runs from 10 overs, Foo took 2 for 19 off 8.3 overs, while Sharaz Ramcharran had 4 for 15 from 7 overs.
In response, Albion found themselves in trouble at 12 for 2 in the 3rd over as Balchan Baldeo was caught at cover off medium pacer Yogindra Harrinarine for 06, while fellow medium pacer Manoj Looknauth dismissed national Under 15 player Adrian Sukhwa for 00. National player Jonathan Foo then took over and together with Sharaz Ramcharran took the score to 56 in the 10th over before Ramcharran was dismissed by left arm spinner Gregory Crandon for just 02 as Foo took the attack to the PMCC bowlers.
Berbice under 19 player David Latchaya joined Foo and together they saw their team home with an unbroken 4th wicket stand of 67 runs as Albion reached 123 for 3 off 21.1 overs. The talented Foo blasted 81 not out with 8 boundaries and four massive sixes, while an impressive Latchaya scored 20 not out (2 boundaries). Bowling for a clearly disappointed PMCC, Yogendra Harrinarine, Manoj Looknauth and Gregory Crandon took one wicket a piece.
The final of the tournament is scheduled for the Port Mourant Ground on a date to be announced.
