The Berbice River Bridge Company (BRBC) yesterday renewed ties with the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB). The company will be sponsoring a 50 overs tournament for the second successive year.
CEO of the BRBC Omadatt Samaroo (third from right) presents the sponsorship cheque to Julian Cambridge while, from left, junior selector Rabindranauth Saywack, BCB administrative officer Alisa Moonsee and Malcolm Peters display the exhibition posters.
The competition will be played on a knock out basis by fourteen first division teams with the winner taking home $80,000 and a trophy, the runner up $40,000, while the man of the match in the final will receive $10,000.
The tournament is expected to be of the highest standard with teams such as Albion, Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets, Young Warriors, Port Mourant, Blairmont, West Berbice, Upper Corentyne and D’Edward taking part. The likes of Assad Fudadin, Sewnarine Chattergoon, Raun Johnson and Narsingh Deonarine are expected to represent their clubs in the tournament.
First vice president of the BCB Julian Cambridge said that they are proud to have the entity on board once again and expressed gratitude to the Chief Executive Officer of the BRBC Omadatt Samaroo.
Samaroo said they are pleased to be associated with the BCB and wished the teams well.
The BRBC will also donate two trophies for the board’s annual awards ceremony scheduled for March 22 and will sponsor a Golden Jubilee Exhibition which will be held in every secondary school in the county and would feature players from Berbice who represented the West Indies in tests, ODI including the female ODI match played at Albion, administrators of the BCB and a Berbice all time XI. The main aim of the exhibition is to educate the youths on the history of cricket and to promote cricket as an avenue for them. The exhibition will be taken to the general public once it completes the tour of the schools.
