BCB Golden Jubilee Celebration 1939-2014…
The Berbice Cricket Board, as part of its Golden jubilee programme, on Sunday last hosted a successful one day first aid clinic for cricket clubs, schools and other sporting organisations in the ancient county. Over forty individuals representing the top cricket clubs in Berbice, the Berbice Football Association, Berbice Volleyball Association, St. Francis Xavier Youth club, Corentyne Comprehensive Secondary, Manchester High School, Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club among others attended the clinic which was conducted by medical personnel of the Guyana Defence Force.
President of the Berbice Cricket Board Keith Foster in declaring the clinic open, stated that the Board wanted to make sure that each major cricket club in Berbice has atleast one member who has knowledge of first aid, in case of any emergency on the cricket field. Noting that the BCB was fully committed to the all round development of cricket at all levels, he urged the participants to take full advantage of the opportunity to learn as much as possible and to educate other members of their organization on first aid.
Head of the Golden Jubilee Committee, Hilbert Foster, expressed gratitude to the administration of the Guyana Defence Force for their support of the first aid clinic and expressed the hope that the relationship between the BCB and the army would be strengthened in the future.
The first aid clinic was conducted by a three man team headed by Sgt. Seon Duncan, Senior first aid instructor of the GDF and participants were also exposed to public demonstration of how to administer first aid. Each club was also provided with a comprehensive first aid package on the necessary information on first aid.
Representatives of the different clubs, schools and organisations at the end of the clinic expressed gratitude to the BCB for organising the programme as they are now better educated about first aid and how to respond if someone is injured.
