Following the completion of the election of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA), the body has released the list of all officer bearers that will be in place for the next year.
When the elections were held Vic Oudit, a former president of the body in 2011, defeated former President Justice Cecil Kennard 11-7. Kennard who was subsequently elected as a vice president has since resigned.
The other vice presidents are Fazal Habibulla and Roopnarine Matadial. The rest of the executives are Zenzie Goring, who will continue to serve as Secretary. Patrick Davis is the Assistant Secretary, while Francis Chichester will continue as Treasurer.
The committee members are – Dennis De Roop, Tribuwhan Jagdeo, C. Ramnauth and Lakeram Sookdeo.
Those put in place to represent horse owners and trainers are –Tribuwhan Jagdeo, Fazal Habibulla, Colin Elcock and Dennis De Roop. The jockeys’ Representative is Ivan Dipnarine.
Those serving as classifiers are Roopnarine Matadial, Fazal Habibulla, Patrick Davis, Dennis De Roop, Colin Elcock, Tribuwhan Jagdeo, Lakeram Sookdeo and C. Ramnauth.
The Stewards that will serve the organization for the next year are Francis Chichester, Lakeram Sookdeo, Bobby Vaughn, Quacy Henry and C. Ramnauth.
Attorney at law Ragendra Poonai is the new legal advisor of the body replacing deceased Senior Council Marcel Crawford.
The new body has hit the ground running in its effort to lift the standard of the sport. They have so far held meetings with all jockeys in their effort to reform the jockeys’ association. All jockeys will have to be licensed before they are allowed to ride.
Meanwhile, anyone wanting to become a jockey will first have to be recommended by an owner, trainer or stable. The jockeys will have to be 15 years and over before they are eligible.
Meetings are also scheduled to be held shortly with horse owners and trainers and the various clubs so that everyone can have a voice in the sport.
Six of the seven clubs eligible attended the meeting namely; Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC), Port Mourant Turf Club, Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club and Sports Facilities(RCMTC&SF) Bush Lot United Turf Club(BLUTC), Rising Sun Turf Club (RSTC) and the little known Budhan’ Racing Club. The Norman Singh Memorial Turf Club did not attend.
