Entries have started to pour even as a number of sponsors have gotten on board for next Sunday, March 16th, grand one day horserace meet organised by the Port Mourant Turf Club in association with the Guyana Horse Owners Association (GHOA) scheduled for the Port Mourant Turf Club, Corentyne, Berbice.
Over 60 entries have been received so far for the event which is the first to be jointly organised for the year between the host club and the GHOA.
Most of the major sponsors have already climbed on board led by Banks DIH Limited, Trophy Stall, Jumbo Jet, Shariff Business Enterprise and Racing Stable, Inshan Bacchus Hard Runnings Trucking Service and Racing Stable, Lakeram “Buddy” Sukhdeo, Delmur Shipping Company and Racing stable, Republic Bank Guyana Limited, Romel Jagroop Construction Company and Racing Stable and Chris Jagdeo Construction Company and Racing stable among others.
Over $8M in prizes are at stake.
The main event is for horses classified D and lower for a hefty top prize of $1 million over a distance of one mile compliments of Banks DIH Limited. The co-feature event is for Three-year-old Guyana and West Indies bred horses over 1300m. Other events are the four-year-old Guyana and West Indies bred event for a $500,000 purse over 1500, the F and lower event also over 1500M with a winning take of $500,000, G3 West Indies Maiden and Guyana open over 1200m for a $400,000 first prize, the ‘I’ and Lower 1000M sprint with $250,000 winners pocket and the J and Lower over1200M race for a $200,000 prize.
