Jumbo Jet and Dookie Stables outstanding
Treacle of the Milton Dookie Stable, Cane Grove, Mahaica and trained by Fazal Habibulla, continued to set tongues wagging when it defeated a top class field to claim the feature C and Lower event at the Rising Sun Turf Club / Shariff Business Enterprise and Racing Stable One-Day Horserace Meet on Sunday last at Arima Park.
Treacle, imported from Trinidad about two years ago and carrying a weight of 108 pounds with Jockey Randolph Richmond on the perch, came through with a burst of speed to capture the $1M and Banks DIH trophy.
Treacle, recorded its third win for the year and ninth overall in an unbeaten run to date.
The 10 horses were off to a quiet start as they raced out of the starting gates in the 1400M event. Country Armagh, Red and Lovely and Swing Easy took the early lead. By the half way mark the animals were going at a terrific speed with Country Armagh pointing them.
Into the far turn, Treacle with Richmond urging it on made a move and by the time the animals had hit the homestretch it was Treacle that took charge, surging forward at a frenetic pace.
Swing Easy threatened, but Treacle held strong to put them in its dust as it romped home with ease ahead of Country Armagh, Swing East and the fast finishing California Strike for the victory.
Appealing Harvest of the Jumbo Jet stable with Colin Ross on mount won the E and Lower 1400M event and the $400,000 prize from Damascus Dream, Fresh Again and Ferry Landing.
The event for four-year-old Guyana and West Indies bred horses was won by Princess Alicia of the Jumbo Jet Stable taking the $400,000 ahead of stable mate, Its My Turn, Silent Night and Wild Grinder.
Unsettled of the Inshan Bacchus Stable with Trinidadian Nicolas Patrick continued its winning ways, scoring another victory in the three-year-old Guyana and West Indies Bred animals race from Today is My Day and Shooting Star third. The win was worth $400,000.
The G3 and Lower event saw 14 animals competing and it was Rosetta of the Jumbo Jet Stable with Ross again in control that gave that entity its third win in the 1100M. Ferry Landing touched down second ahead of She So Special and Gold Rush for the $300,000 top prize.
It was a cool win for Easy of the Dookie Stable with Richmond in control to give that entity its second victory of the day in the ‘I’ and Lower 1100M contest ahead of Mary Ann and Famous Pride for the $250,000 winner’s money. The J and Lower 1100M event saw De Gump taking charge to win the $180,000 purse from Windy Killer and Famous Pride.
The Champion Jockey award was taken by Colin Ross with the Jumbo Jet Stable awarded the top Stable accolade; Deonarine ‘Black Boy’ Ramroop was declared the most successful Trainer. They were all rewarded compliments of Trophy Stall, Bourda Market and the organisers.
Close to 70 horses took part in the day’s activity which had $8.5M in cash and trophies up for grabs. (Samuel Whyte)
