The Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA) has planned a meeting involving the six Secondary schools vying for this year’s 10th Linden Secondary Schools Under-19 championship, which will bounce off from April 4 through to April 25, today at 3:00pm at the Mackenzie Sports Club Pavilion.
In a release, LABA indicated that this afternoon’s briefing is for representatives of the six participating schools which are defending champions Christianburg Wismar Secondary, New Silvercity, Linden Technical Institute, Linden Foundation Secondary, Mackenzie High and Wisburg.
Organising Secretary of LABA Ashton Angel (Jr.) is tasked with informing those attending of the plans for this year’s championship and contact with him can be made on telephone numbers 444 2712 or 644 6657 for further information.
The LABA is asking that the schools be represented to receive the details of the playing dates and other related rules.
Secretary of LABA Joseph Chapman said that plans are on stream to have the tournament played from April 4 through to April 25 during the height of the Linden Town Week celebrations.
It is hoped that the six schools that were presented with new uniforms for that tournament will make them available for this year’s championship.
Chapman also informed that the tournament was the brainchild of former National Women’s Coach, Linden Alphonso, who now resides in the United States, and he has taken the responsibility to ensure sponsorship is garnered for the trophies and replicas for this year’s event.
Last year the LABA took over the running of the tournament which was staged through the Victory Valley Royals Basketball Club.
However, Chapman said that based on discussions there will be the involvement of members of the club in an effort to ensure the tournament remains the premier one among schools in Linden.
