Two bodies found in one day

The bodies of two elderly males were recovered on separate sides of the Demerara River yesterday.
One of the bodies was discovered in a drain on the southern side of Mandela Avenue near the John Fernandes Container Terminal, while the other was found at Vreed-en-Hoop on the West Bank of Demerara.

The body at Mandela Avenue appeared to be that of a destitute man in his late fifties. It was clad in a black and white striped jersey and three-quarter trousers.
Eyewitnesses said that a man who went fishing in the drain made the shocking discovery at about 14:30 hours.
Investigators believe that the man died less than a day ago, since the body had not yet reached a state of decomposition.
They have almost ruled out foul play since the body bore no visible mark of violence. However they are awaiting the results of a post mortem examination.
Meanwhile, police are also trying to ascertain the identity of a man whose headless corpse was discovered in the vicinity of the abandoned Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara wharf yesterday afternoon.
A source said that the victim was found lying face-down and was wearing a pair of three-quarter trousers and a white jersey. The fingers and feet were missing from the decomposing corpse.
