-Lodge, Bishop’s High play to pulsating draw
It was the most entertaining game of the day as the twenty-two players on the field drawn from Lodge Secondary School and Bishop’s High engaged in a pulsating contest for full points.
In the end, it took a 72nd minute goal from Shamar Smith to earn a draw for Lodge after they had taken the lead in the 8th minute through Jarel Grannum, who netted a penalty.
Despite Bishop’s High stepping up the tempo, Lodge’s defence held firm and they went to the break clinging to a 1-0 lead after surviving a furious attacking onslaught by their opponents.
After the resumption, both teams traded chances with Lodge closest to scoring when a shot from the left side landed on the crossbar and headed into touch for a goal kick.
It was a reprieve for the Bishop’s High unit, who rode their luck and responded shortly after through the uncontainable Nathanael King, who eased past two defenders, before firing a fierce right-footer through the leg of the Lodge custodian to level the proceedings at 1-1 in the 41st minute of play.
King then doubled his tally through a penalty, firing to the left of the keeper in the 62nd minute to give his team a slight advantage.
However, Lodge gained the equaliser two minutes into extra time when Smith beat a defender and the goalkeeper to a cross from the left side to tap in from close range much to the jubilation of their supporters.
In the opening encounter, Chase Academy inflicted an 11-0 drubbing on St. Winefred’s with Shamar Barrow leading all scorers with a treble in the 30th, 60th and 63rd minutes, while Steven Sankar (7th and 29th), Ryan Watson (16th and 19th) and Isaiah Reddy (20th and 25th) contributed a brace apiece, while Carl Semple (28th) and Kireem Sanmogan (30th) completed their tally.
In the second game of the day, Dolphin and Christ Church played to a 1-1 draw with Job Caesar (22nd) and Andre Trotz (21st) netting for their schools respectively.
The final game of the day saw Queenstown defeat New Campbellville 3-0 thanks to Rudy Richmond’s efforts in the 36th and 60th and Williamson De Santos in the 63rd.
