The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) selectors have made two changes to the national team for the second round of the West Indies Cricket Board Regional four day championship. Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Chanderpaul Hemraj have replaced the injured Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul.
The young Chanderpaul recently returned from the ICC U19 World Cup where he was the West Indies most consistent batsman scoring a century and two half centuries.
The Guyanese take on Barbados from the 7th March at the Providence Stadium and would try to reverse their fortunes after surrendering to Jamaica yesterday in their opening game at Sabina Park.
Kaieteur Sport was reliably informed that both Chanderpaul and Sarwan may have travelled to Jamaica with these injuries without informing the GCB, the Selectors or team management. Their return to the squad may very well depend on medical and fitness clearances.
Both Chanderpaul and Sarwan have signed with English counties to play in the upcoming season and must be fit in time to commence these contractual obligations.
Chairman of the GCB Senior Selection Panel, Rayon Griffith, explained that the touring squad for Regional Four Day Competition only consists of 13 Players and it is essential to have all of the players available. “In Jamaica we had eleven players on the field and the other two injured even before we started the game,” he added. Griffith contended that despite great investment in preparation, by the GCB, more commitment is needed from the players.
The full squad reads: Sewnarine Chattergoon, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Assad Fudadin, Vishaul Singh, Christopher Barnwell (Captain), Narsingh Deonarine, Chanderpaul Hemraj, Anthony Bramble (W/Keeper), Veerasammy Permaul (V/Captain), Devindra Bishoo, Ronsford Beaton, Keon Joseph and Amir Khan.
The Manager is Alvin Johnson while the Coach is Esaun Crandon. Berbice Head Coach Mr. Julian Moore will join the squad for all the home matches as Assistant Coach.
