After having a very successful year of activities in 2013, Guyana’s leading football organization, the Hearts of Oak Master Football Club (HOMFC) has commenced their 2014 season in earnest by successfully staging an Inter Primary Schools tournament in the New Amsterdam area, which marked the start of what is expect to be a busy year for the club.
Four of the six schools invited took part in the one day tournament which was held on Friday last at the All Saints Scot Church Ground, Princess Elizabeth Road, New Amsterdam. The tournament, which was played on a round robin basis, was won by St Aloysius Primary, while the other three schools that participated were All Saints, New Amsterdam and St Therese Primaries.
The day’s activity opened with All Saints and St Therese playing to a 0-0 draw. The next game saw St Aloysius whipping New Amsterdam Primary 3-0 with Kelly Amsterdam leading the way with a double and Anthony Williams netting one.
All Saints Primary was in winner’s row in their game against New Amsterdam Priming which they won 2-0 with Como Adams and Tyrese Williams being on target.
Game four saw St Aloysius continuing their unbeaten run with goals from Jaden Nedd and Anthony Williams as they edged past St Therese 2-1 with Shemar Welcome scoring for the losers.
The next game between All Saints and St Aloysius ended in a 0-0 draw.
The final game saw St Therese needling New Amsterdam Primary 1-0 with Richford Blair being on target.
At the presentation ceremony which followed immediately after the competition, the winning trophy was presented to the St Aloysius Primary Team which was coached by Randy “Blade” Sears of the HOMFC. Second place trophy was won by All Saints Primary.
The Most valuable Player award was presented to Kelly Amsterdam of St Aloysius, who also shared the most goals award with teammate Anthony Williams with two goals each. Best Goalkeeper on show was Sherwin Duff of All Saints Primary. They all received trophies for their outstanding performance.
Shamar Myers of St Aloysius was adjudged as the best defender on show. He was presented with one pair of football hose and trunks. The most promising player award went to Rickford Blair of St Therese Primary; he also received one pair of Football hose and trunks.
