Just under two weeks following his horrific death, former National Football Coach, Peter Lashley, will be laid to rest this afternoon. Family, friends, footballers and other affiliates of the football fraternity, where Lashley had given yeoman service, will join with other mourners to pay their final respects when the former servant of the sport is eulogized before being interred at the Buxton Cemetery later this afternoon.
Lashley died on February 14 last after being involved in an accident at the Mandela Avenue/Jamoon Drive junction; he was 54 years-old. Since his death, many of his colleagues around the world had telephoned to convey their sympathy while several organizations have held wakes in commemoration of his passing.
Last evening, his colleagues from the Georgetown Football Club, where Lashley had nurtured many young ball weavers, held a wake and solemnly remembered their departed colleague.
Meanwhile, the body will be at the Merriman’s Funeral Home between 09:00 – 09:30hrs this morning before leaving for a pass by his former work place, John Fernandes.
The body will then be taken to the GFC Ground until 12:30hrs then to the St. Sidwells Church at 13:00hrs for the service. The cortege then proceeds to the Buxton Cemetery where the body will be interred. Lashley is survived by his wife, Lorraine and three children, all boys, Kobie, Nicholas and Jamal.
