Phantom marked 81 games to win the final of the Robert Williams Memorial Dominoes competition which was contested recently at Faye Joseph residence, Gaulding Place, South Ruimveldt, Park.
Strikers placed second with 79 games followed by Mix Up on 67. Michael Dongues and Eon Allen were Phantom’s leading players with 17 and 16 games respectively. Sidney James who took the most valuable player of the final award made the maximum 18 games, while Linden Boston scored 16 for Strikers. Mark Wiltshire and Gilbert Mendonca marked 16 games apiece for Mix Up who drew the bye to the final.
Strikers chalked up 75 games to win the semifinal ahead of Phantom 70 and Dream Team 64. Gary Johnson chalked 17 and Boston 16 for Strikers, while Allen and Dongues made 17 and 16 respectively for Phantom. Kishan Myers scored 16 for Dream Team.
Phantom received a trophy and $200,000, while Strikers pocketed a trophy and $100,000 and Mix Up a trophy and $50,000. The competition was sponsored by the president of the Georgetown Dominoes Association and played in the memory of the later Deputy Mayor of Georgetown Robert Williams.
Meanwhile, Wednesday at Faye Joseph residence Gaulding Place, there will be a 27-team open competition. Entrance fee is $9,000. The wining team will take home $150,000, second place $75,000 and third place $35,000. The man of the match in the final will be given $5,000. Entrance fee must be paid before the competition commences and prizes are also subject to change. The finals will be played on March 8 and 9 at Joseph residence.
