Must the affluent be so self-centred?

DEAR EDITOR,
During a cricket match played at the Enmore Community Centre on Sunday 23rd February, the son of an affluent individual was riding his ATV in the Community Centre compound, the venue of the cricket match. He did not care about the noise the vehicle was making to the discomfort of others; he was doing stunts and making sharp turns on the grass. He had no concern for the damage he was doing to the grass.
After he was stopped by an official of the Centre, that official became the subject of verbal attack from the friends and relatives of the affluent parent. The “posse” said the young man was “breaking in” his ATV. What a venue he chose to do so!
A few months ago, this same young man was “breaking in” this same ATV in the Enmore Martyrs Monument compound. Again, he was stopped by another responsible individual, and that individual suffered a similar verbal attack from the affluent parent and his relatives and friends.
A few weeks ago another affluent man opened up his truck’s ensemble of “noise makers” while cricket was being played and had to be threatened with Police action before he stopped.
Must the affluent be so self-centred? Do they always have to advertise their wealth by insulting others? Do they have to go to any length to be noticed?
The Enmore Community Centre and its ground were in a state of severe neglect for over a decade. These affluent and obnoxious individuals were in hibernation. Today, when hard work is being put in to restore the Centre to its earlier prominence as a venue for discipline and sports development, the naysayers are crawling out of the woodwork to advertise their destructive tendencies.
I call upon all reasonable thinking lovers of sports and youth development in the Enmore Community to resist all attempts by some to drag the Centre back to last decade when no one wanted to do anything about it. Cricket and other sports are important stimulants to our children’s development. Let us not short-change them. Let us join together to help them.
