Guyanese Derwin Christian crafted a solid century to spearhead his Trinidad club, Monroe Road to a four-run victory over Merry Boys in the Trinidad and Tobago Sunday League 50-over competition last Wednesday night under lights.
Christian, who represented the West Indies in the t20 format, crafted a solid 103 as Monroe reached 205 all out in 49.2 overs. Christian was supported by Kristoff Andrews (41).
In Merry Boys’ turn at the crease, former Guyana Under-19 Captain, Troy Cornelius led the way with 47, while Aneil Kanhai posted 23 as Merry Boys fell short by four runs.
Former West Indies Test Spinner Mahendra Nagamootoo was the pick of the blowers for Monroe Road with 3-23.
Defending champions Queen’s Park Cricket Club stayed perfect with a 112-run win over Esmeralda at Queen’s Park Oval to confirm their place at the top of the Group A standings, booking a place in the quarter-finals as the top team in the group.
They beat Esmeralda by 112 runs, despite 47 from Guyanese Anthony D’Andrade and a two-wicket haul from Trevon Griffith, who left the practice match at the Guyana National Stadium between the Guyana team and a Rest team to represent his T&T club.
At Pierre Road, Comets beat Mosai Sports by two wickets with T&T national player Imran Khan making 102 and Guyanese left-arm spinner Raj Nanan hitting an unbeaten 47.
Seenath’s Auto Bamboo Sports, Merry Boys, Caldrac and Munroe Road will be fighting for the remaining three quarter-final spots up for grabs in Group A.
In Group B, PowerGen, Jenexcon Tableland and First Citizens Clarke Road United are through to the quarter-finals, while Mosai Sports and Alescon Comets will be fighting for the other qualifying spot.
The final round of group matches–the rescheduled third round—will be played on March 1. The quarter-finals take place on March 6 just after Carnival.
