Deputy Superintendent of Police, (DSP) Michael Kingston told the court on Friday that he was stationed at Cove and John three years ago, when he arrested Orin David called ‘Plait Hair or Malik’ in connection with the murder of Mahaica farmer, Lakhram Bishundial.
Kingston was the third person to testify at the Supreme Court as it regards to the trial of David and his alleged accomplice Shawn Thom, who are jointly facing a murder charge.
The duo is accused of killing Bishundial, who was reportedly shot during a robbery on August 20, 2010.
On Friday, the witness told Justice Franklyn Holder and a mixed 12-member Jury that he had initially arrested Sheik Aleem Samad in connection the murder, but based on information received , he travelled to Linden, where arrested David, the number two accused.
DSP Kingston claimed that David had remained silent even after he put the allegation to him.
His testimony was followed by evidence given by Davenand Persaud of Mahaica.
The witness told the court that he lived next door to the Bishundials of De Hoop, Mahaica for a number of years. He said that he was in the truck, driven by Lakhram Bishundial on the day that he was killed. Persaud detailed, that he, Lakhram and a group of men were heading to the Ashram to collect chairs when, “Lakhram stopped to talk to his brother.”
The witness said that the truck had stopped at “Hope turn,” when a man came up to the brothers and demanded a bag with money. According to Persaud, the man repeatedly yelled “Pass de bag with the money.”
The witness said that Bishundial, who was in the driver’s seat of the truck beside him responded “what f***ing money and the man shot him.”
He said that the injured man immediately collapsed on him. Persaud said that he helped to lift the bleeding man into a pickup truck, which his brother Totaram drove. The witness recounted that on their way to the hospital, he saw the man who shot Bishundial at a Victoria Gas Station, “Totaram attempted to pin the suspect to a nearby fence, but he escaped and jumped into a getaway car.”
Bishundial was taken to the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
According to details relating to the case, the Bishundials were preparing for a wedding celebration of their son, Totaram Bishundial, which was scheduled for August 22, 2010.
Two days prior, Totaram Bishundial left his home for Georgetown with his cousin, Seeta, to do some shopping for the wedding. He went to Demerara Bank and withdrew $500,000.
On his way back to Mahaica, Totaram stopped at Hope, East Coast Demerara, to talk with his brother, Lakhram. The incident subsequently occurred.
