Roraima Bikers Club member Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams dethroned defending champion and club mate Alonzo Greaves in the feature 35-lap race when the 23rd edition of the R&R International 11-race Mashramani cycle programme
came off at the National Park circuit yesterday.
On a cool day in slightly overcast conditions with a few drizzles here and there, Williams timed the contest to perfection to emerge victorious in an exciting sprint home ahead of Greaves, Hamza Eastman, Raynauth Jeffrey, Alanzo Ambrose and Paul De Nobrega in that order.
The winning time for his second victory of the season was One Hour 19 Minutes 10 Seconds and was way faster than last year’s time of One Hour 28 Minutes 15 Seconds.
Williams took a single sprint prize with Greaves capturing four, Eastman two and Jeffrey one.
Raul Leal was successful in the defence of the juvenile 10 lap contest just 2.70 seconds slower than last year’s winning time of 23 Minutes 07 Seconds. Trailing him to the line were the ever improving Alanzo Ambrose and Stephano Husbands.
Ralph Williams won the veterans Under-50 5-lap race from Kennard Lovell and Shawn Baksh, clocking 14 Minutes 01 Seconds.
Linden Blackman copped the top spot in the over-50 event over a similar distance in a faster time than the under-50 riders. Blackman stopped the clock at 13 Minutes 33 Seconds. Virgil Jones and Wilfred Thom placed second and third.
Maurice Fagundes again led his rival and good friend Anthony Fariah in the over-60 match-up.
