No. 71, Corriverton, No. 70 MYO and No.48 Challengers advance to semifinals
The Semifinals and final will be played with white ball, coloured clothing and will be 50 overs per side for the 1st time in Berbice second division cricket.
The semifinalists have been decided for the Upper Corentyne Second Division competition, which is sponsored by Price is Right Supermarket of Public Road No.79 Corriverton and at Skeldon Market.
The four teams through are No. 71, Corriverton, No. 70 MYO and No.48 Challengers.
Results of the quarterfinal games played were as follow – No. 48 Challengers defeated No.64 Fighting Marines by 9 runs in a close encounter. Batting first No. 48 Challengers scored 109 all out in 23.4 overs with Homdat Homraj top scoring with 33. Bowling for No. 64 Kesh Sudhama took 3 for 29 and Jailall Itwaru 3 for 24. In reply No. 64 Fighting Marines were bowled out for 100 with Rishi Subhan top scoring with 20. Bowling for No. 48 Rayon Ameir took 4 for 9 off 3.3 overs.
In another game No.70 MYO defeated No. 43 by 71 runs. Batting first No.70 MYO made 188 all out with Mohammad Khan top scoring with 63 and Ahmad Khan supporting with 43. Bowling for No. 43, Ganesh Basdeo took 3 for 17 and Fizal Drepaul took 2 for 22. No. 43 in their reply were bowled out for 117 with Basdeo returning to strike 23 and Lakeram Diaram 21. Bowling for No. 70 MYO Ahmad Khan took 3 for 23 and Jameel Assad took 2 for 4.
The next game which was reduced to 32 overs a side due to rain saw No. 71 hammering Crabwood Creek Rising by a massive 145 runs. Batting first No. 71 blazed to 314 for 6 off their allotted overs. The in-form Soomdat Singh romped to his second century of the competition as he hammered 176 (15×4, 14×6) in a brutal display. Support came from Nazim Mohammed with 36.
Bowling for CWC Rising – Chad Ramassar took 3 for 23.
During the interval rain interrupted play and CWC Rising were set 266 runs to win off 27 overs. However they were bowled out for 121 runs in 18.5 overs with D. Challitar top scoring with 33. Bowling for No. 71 Deoprakash Ramdat with 3 for 21 and Yugesh Lionel 3 for 43 were the main wicket takers.
In the final quarterfinal game, Corriverton defeated Springlands by 5 wickets in a match which was also affected by the weather and reduced to 26 overs a side. Springlands batted first and made 124 for 6 with Azam Razack 31 and Trishan Ramdass 28 the principal scorers. Bowling for Corriverton Eon Phillips took 2 for 19. In reply Corriverton reached 126-5 in 21.3 overs with Clavern Beresford top scoring with 36 and Imran Jabbar contributing 24. Bowling for Springlands Razack picked up 2 for 19.
The first semifinal between No. 71 and Corriverton is set for Monday February 24, 2014 at the No. 69 Red Rose ground. Action starts at 9:30hrs.
Admission is easy and well stocked food and drinks bars will be on hand. Music will be supplied by popular sound system. The second semifinal between No. 48 Challengers and No. 70 MYO is fixed for Sunday 9th March 9, 2014 at No. 48 ground.
