The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Mrs. Shalimar Ali-Hack, yesterday, said that the Colwyn Harding file has been returned to the Guyana Police Force for further investigations to be conducted.
In a statement, Ali-Hack explained that the file on Harding’s alleged rape matter was at the Chambers for 12 working days and not almost a month after recommendations on the matter were made by the Chairman of the Police Complaint Authority (PCA) as was reported in certain sections of the media.
“Harding’s file was received at these Chambers on February 6, 2014 and was dispatched to the GPF on February 19, 2014,” the statement added.
Harding, 23, claimed that he was sexually assaulted with a baton by a policeman while in custody at the Timehri Police Station. He was diagnosed with strangulated inguinal scrotal hernia by doctors at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
However, medical examinations conducted by independent doctors both here and in Jamaica have concluded that a “foreign object” was inserted into the anus of the 23-year-old man.
Investigations are ongoing.
