Mavericks thump Bulls, Tigers maul Seals in semis

West Demerara Mavericks defeated East Coast Bulls by 5 wickets and East Coast Tigers trounced West Demerara Seals by 9 wickets in their respective semi final games of the Demerara Cricket Board\ Raj Singh Insurance Brokers over 40 twenty overs tournament yesterday at the Everest Cricket Club.
In the first semi final, the Bulls were skittled for 96 in 17.2 overs, batting first. Baldeo Persaud was the only batsman that offered any resistance with 37. Shawn Persaud claimed 2-1 and Steve Harripaul 2-15. Mavericks replied with 97-5 in 17 overs. Eon Williams and Deoram Persaud scored 24 each. Baldeo was given the man of the match award.
In the second semi, Seals took first strike and managed 155-7 in 20 overs. Ravindranauth Seeram smashed eleven fours in a top score of 76 while Asgarally Nazarallie supported with 27 before he was forced to retire hurt. Anil Persaud captured 2-14 while there was one each for Jacob Persaud, Eon Abel and Bashir Khan.
The Tigers replied with 156-1 in 14.2 overs. Sheik Mohamed and Abel then put their team on course with an opening stand of 148 before Abel was run out for 97 attempting a sharp single. He stroked nine fours and five sixes. Mohamed ended unbeaten on 25 while Jagdesh Persaud made 8 not out; the Seals put down several catches which aided in them having to watch the final from beyond the boundary.
Mavericks and Tigers will clash in the final today at the said venue from 13:00 hrs.
