A dropped identification card has helped police to identify the bandit who attacked and robbed retired Assistant Police Commissioner Clinton Conway at his Lamaha Park home last Friday.
A senior police official said that the suspect is a 23-year-old and that he dropped the document at Mr. Conway’s home while struggling with his victim. Kaieteur News understands that police have detained another youth in connection with the robbery, but the suspect who attacked Mr. Conway is reportedly still at large.
Contrary to earlier reports, 60-year-old Conway was not the only person at home when the attack occurred.
According to police sources, the former Assistant Police Commissioner came home around noon yesterday to find a young man holding his son-in-law at gunpoint and ransacking the house.
A struggle ensued between Mr. Conway and the robber, during which the intruder struck Conway on the head with his firearm. The suspect and an accomplice reportedly escaped with some $300,000 and two mobile phones.
Conway was treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
Meanwhile, robbers also attacked and robbed a police constable around 21:00 hrs on Thursday night.
A source said that the Police Constable Denny, an Impact Base rank, was walking with a female in the vicinity of Camp and New Market Streets, when two men on a blue motorcycle held them at gunpoint.
The robbers relieved the constable of his cell phone and other valuables, but reportedly returned a handbag that they had taken from Denny’s companion.
