Mike Mangal streaked away from the field to win the David DeCaires and Basil Sukhram Memorial Golf Tournament on Saturday.
Mangal scored an impressive 37 points according to the Stableford format which awards points for each hole depending on how well they are played.
Winners of the Memorial Golf Tournament along with Doreen DeCaires and Christine Sukram, the daughter of one of the honorees, Basil Sukhram take time out for a photo.
Second place went to Avinash Persaud with 34 points and third place to Pur Persaud with 32. Persaud is a newcomer to the game but very dedicated and clearly a player to watch out for this year. L. Ramsundar took fourth spot and nearest to the pin was Esau Shamshudin (who three putted from eight feet).
In remarks at the presentation, widow of Mr DeCaires, Doreen, remembered him as a keen if somewhat erratic golfer, and she urged the club to continue promoting golf in Guyana.
This week’s tournament is sponsored by Stag Beer and in order to leave room for post-round activities the sponsor has asked that the tee time be moved up to 11:00am.
