As the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation ((GABF) continues its ‘Road to Mecca’ preparations with the aim of sending the best possible team to represent Guyana at the Caribbean Basketball Championships later this year in the British Virgin Islands, the battle for the remaining slot available in the National Club Championship will see two ‘wild card’ matches played tonight in Linden at the Mackenzie Sports Club Hard Court.
Linden’s Block 22 Flames, who missed out of the top five ranking, will seek to secure the only available place when they face Panthers of Georgetown in the first game at 7:00pm, while the other Linden sides who did not make the top cut among the Mining Town clubs, will see Wismar Pistons take on newcomers Bankers Trust Falcons in the second game at 9:00pm.
This evening’s matches are set to continue the fight among eight clubs not named among the top five rated sides in the Linden, Georgetown and Berbice Amateur Basketball Associations, seeking to outplay each other in what is a knock out eliminator competition.
Already making it through to the next round are Plaisance and the two winners tonight will advance also into what will be the semifinals of this ‘wild card’ knock out series.
This eliminator competition must culminate in time for the National Club Basketball Championship which will officially bounce off on Saturday March 1, involving the top sixteen clubs from around the country.
Initially, all three associations were allowed to enter their top five ranked clubs for this championship.
