Quick response by police led to the arrest of two suspected bandits and to their car being impounded after high speed chase over the Berbice River Bridge.
Two men are in custody. The police are now saying that they thwarted a suspected robbery at Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice.
According to information, around 20:30hrs Thursday evening the police at Fort Wellington, West Coast Berbice responded quickly to a report of a robbery at Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice. Three men who were armed with a shotgun and pistols, were forced to flee in their getaway vehicle.
The cops gave chase in their vehicle, forcing the bandits to head over the Berbice River Bridge. Back up was summoned and the cops on the eastern shore set up a road block. The unsuspecting bandits after crossing the river and realising that they were cornered abandoned their vehicle and headed into the bushy and swampy area at Palmyra.
The driver of the car PSS 1495 was apprehended and taken into custody. The vehicle has also been impounded.
It was reported that another suspect was caught around 04:30 hrs on Friday morning as he was making his way out of the area. He too is also in custody.
