Dolphin, Tucville, Charlestown win
Dolphin, Tucville and Charlestown were in winners’ row as play in the Milo/Petra Organisation Under-20 Schools Football Competition commenced yesterday, at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.
In the first game, Dolphin led by a brace from Samuel Hunte, who netted in the 7th and 9th minutes along with solitary strikes off the boots of Shawn Mohamed in the 30th and Job Caesar on the stroke of full time, eased past Cummings Lodge 4-0.
In the game that followed, Bishop’s High came from behind to earn a draw against St. Mary’s who had taken the lead through Sean Turney’s 25th minute effort, before Nathanael King’s 69th minute goal cancelled out their advantage.
In the third game, Tucville cruised to a comfortable 2-0 triumph over Freeburg with Keifer Brandt netting in the 17th minute and Jamal Trim doubling the scoreline in the 41st minute of play.
Charlestown then received a walkover from St. Joseph’s High that failed to show up.
The competition resumes today with four matches scheduled for the same venue.
Meanwhile, the teams participated in a March Past before the start of play and tournament officials took the Salute.
Among those who gave comments were Petra Co-Director Troy Mendonca, who in his remarks spoke of the genesis of the tournament which according to him was to raise the standard of the game in Georgetown.
Milo Representative Treion D’ Anjou told the players to exhibit discipline, play fair and enjoy the competition.
Ministry of Health official Joy Gravesande spoke of the importance of imparting knowledge to the players about gender-based violence in order that the scourge could be eradicated.
