Local swimmers have continued to prepare for the upcoming Inter Guiana and Goodwill games which will be held in May and August respectively.
The swimmers were taken through their paces on Friday afternoon at the National Aquatic Centre, Liliendaal, East Coast, Demerara under the guidance of coach, Cuban based Isabel Maria Cuso Fals with assistance from Shawn Baksh and Stephanie Fraser.
In an invited comment, level 3 Coach Baksh from the Orca Speed Swim club, said that the swimmers are adopting well. He said that they will be competing in the Mash meet in March which will be used as a yard stick to select the national team for the games. The coach expressed confidence that the Guyanese can do well. “These competitions will be keenly contested, but I think our athletes will do well. The Goodwill games which will be held in Suriname is usually a tougher competition and our main aim at the moment is to field a full squad of 40, something which we were unable to do in the past”, he added.
Among the swimmers currently preparing for the games are Britany van Lange, Nial Roberts, Leon Seaton, Nathan Hackett and Accalia Khan.
